Salinas,
Ecuador - Beautiful Beach!
Salinas
Ecuador is one of the countries best and most exclusive
beach resorts, at the Westernmost tip of the Santa Elena
Peninsula, 141 Kilometers (88 miles) from Guayaquil. The
most luxurious accommodations are found on this beach.
Salinas
is a city located in Guayas, Ecuador, by the Pacific Ocean.
It is the seat of Salinas Canton, the westernmost canton
in Ecuador.
At the 2001 census there were 49,752 people living within
canton limits. The city is an important touristic center.
The community of Salinas was specially commended in the
Worldaware business awards 2004 for community based business
initiatives.
Salinas (salt mine) got its name because salt used to be
extracted from this region located on the Santa Elena peninsula,
the furthest western point of Ecuador on the Pacific Ocean.
The boardwalk of Salinas (Malecón) is a safe place
that offers lots of entertainment day and night.
The beachfront Malecón is lined with high-rise apartment
buildings, while the rest of the village spreads inland,
with more typical coastal constructions.
Salinas
Ecuador has excellent restaurants and hotels; it is a resort
for stylish sunbathing during the day and upscale disco-dancing
at night. The water of the ocean is warm year-round
Salinas
Beach
The
15-Kilometer (9.5 miles) wide sandy beach, in a half-moon
shape, is divided into two sections by the Salinas Yacht
Club, the West side is nicer, while to the east there are
water skiers and other people doing water sports like jet
ski or wind surfing. Jet skies and surfing equipment can
be rented. The Salinas waterfront Malecón teams with
classy seafood restaurants and ice cream parlors.
The road to Salinas Ecuador is lined by the tropical dry
forest. First stop is at a small on-site museum of "The
Lovers of Sumpa", two embracing skeletons of a man
and woman dating back to 7000 years ago. This site of Las
Vegas culture is the oldest well-documented pre-ceramic
camp in Ecuador.
Salinas is surrounded by seemingly barren flatlands, with
pools where sea water evaporates leaving tons of salt behind.
These man-made lagoons are visited by many kinds of shorebirds.
Salinas Ecuador hosts world deep sea sport-fishing competitions,
mainly for Tuna, Blue Martin and Black Marlin, but sailfish
is also popular. Some world records have been obtained here.
There is a vast diversity of restaurants and cafeterias.
On the Malecon, just two blocks away from the Barceló
Colon Miramar, you can visit the Naval Archeological Museum.
This small museum displays the vast archeological richness
of the region with samples of the Ecuadorian pre-Hispanic
history.
The abundance of these sculptures in the region remains
a mystery, but its known that they represent fertility of
the women and the land. These figurines hold a close relationship
to similar representations in other cultures of the time,
such as the Maya or the far Egyptian culture.
On the highway from Guayaquil to Salinas you can find this
museum managed by the community descendant of the Valdivia
culture. This Museum is ideal to observe the functioning
of archeological investigations.
Pictures and illustrations show the geological and cultural
history of the place. Next to the museum is a 100 year old
house made of caña guadua (wooden cane).
Salinas Ecuador and the Sun's

water sports and excellent services of the coastal provinces
of Guayas and Manabi. (Tours through the Sun’s Route

Nature lovers have the opportunity to explore unique dry
forests with their two contrasting seasons and their rare
fauna and flora, to observe the gigantic whales in the wild
during their mating season, to dive within coral reefs surrounded
by exotic sea life, to admire the numerous bird species
of the region and submerge in the most isolated and exotic
beaches.

to fish, sail, surf and dive. There is also good entertainment

vestiges of an amazingly rich history, since the most antique
cultures of America settled on the Coasts of South America.
